Prof. Robert A. Obudho

R.A.Obudho, Professor of Urban and Regional Planning, University of Nairobi, Founding Editor of African Urban Quarterly Journal and African Urban and Regional Sciences Index and Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Suba Books and Periodicals Distributors Ltd and its subsidiaries.

Formerly, he was an Associate Professor in Geography, University of Nairobi, Kenya, 1994 – 2000; Senior Lecturer in Geography, University of Nairobi, Kenya 1988 – 1994; Lecturer in Geography, University of Nairobi, Kenya 1985 – 1990; Assistant Professor, State University of New York at Albany 1982 – 1985; Visiting Professor College Saint Rose and Vassar College Pouskeepsie, U.S.A., 1982 and 1984, respectively; Assistant Professor, Rutgers University of New Brunswick, U.S.A., 1970 – 1978; and planning Analyst, Johnson & Johnson, world – wide 1968 –1979. Professor Obudho's principal research includes the urbanization, urban and regional planning with particular emphasis to Africa.

His articles and reviews have appeared in a number of international journals, especially, Regional Symbiosis; Regional Development Dialogue; Professional Geographer; Annuals of the Association of American Geographers; African Studies Reviews; Urbanism, Regional Urban Studies; African Urban Studies; Cahier Etudes African; Social Indication Journal; Geojournal; and Third World Planning Review; among others. His major publications include, editor of and contributor to Urbanization, National Development and Regional Planning in Africa (1974); co-author of Periodic Markets, Urbanization and Regional Planning: A Case Study from Western Kenya (1976); editor of and contributor to The Computer and Africa: Problems, Prospects and Potentiality (1977); editor of and contributor to Development of Urban Systems in Kenya: Towards a Bottom-Up Approach to Development Planning (1983); complier of Demography, Urbanization and Spatial Planning in Kenya: A Bibliographical Survey (1985); co-complier of Afro-American Demography and urban Issues: A Bibliography (1985); editor and contributor to Slum and Squatter Settlement in Sub-Saharan Africa: Towards a Planning Strategy (1988); Complier of Small Urban Centres in Africa: A Bibliographical Survey (1995); editor of and contributor to contemporary Issues in Regional Development Policy: Perspectives from Eastern and Southern Africa (1997) editor of and contributor to Urbanization and Management of Kenya's Urban Centres in the 21st Century (1999); editor of and contributor to issues in Resource Management and Development in Kenya; Essays in Memory of Professor Simeon H.Ominde (2000) and editor of contributor to Kenya Coast Handbook; Culture, resources and Development in the East African Littoral (2000).
