Prof. Isaac O. Nyambok

Prof. Isaac is a full professor of geology at University of Nairobi. He holds a doctorate (Fil. Dr.) degree from the University of Uppsala, Sweden. He is a registered geologist in Kenya and a Fellow of the Geological Society of Africa, and The Kenya National Academy of Sciences. Professor Nyambok is a recipient of the 2001 United Nations Sasakawa Award for Disaster Reduction and IUGS Medal for outstanding services to the International Union of Geological Sciences.

He is a founder of the Geological Society of Kenya (GSK) and the International Commission for Earth Sciences in Africa (ICESA). He has been a member of several National and International Technical and Scientific Committees including being vice-president of International Union of geological Correlations Programme (IGCP), Chairman of the International Commission for Earth Sciences in Africa, Chairman of the Geological Society of Kenya and Assistant Secretary of the Kenya National Academy of Sciences, He has also served in several editorial boards of scholarly journals. He has served in several University of Nairobi committees including being Chairman of the Department of Geology, University of Nairobi and also as a Senate member of the University of Nairobi. He recently initiated a programme for the development of a Science Park in the University of Nairobi.

Professor Nyambok's research activities have covered the fields of economic mineral deposits, petrology, geochemistry, hydrogeology and environmental geology. Most of these have been focused on the Kenya Rift System. He was the local co-coordinator of the Kenya International Seismic Project (KRISP) which brought together participants form several countries namely German y, United Kingdom, France, United States, Denmark, Ireland, Kenya and others. Professor Nyambok has over sixty (60) Scientific publications, including books or monographs.

He is married to Margaret Jane Auma with whom they have two sons namely Antony John Odenyo and David E.Ouko.
